"Sneak Preview" Tour of Homes

St. Peter School's 28th Annual Footlights Entertainment Extravaganza

St. Peter School, St. Peter School in Antioch, IL proudly presents the 28th annual Footlights entertainment weekend on November 6th and 7th.

The entertainment weekend is the largest fundraiser for St. Peter School, a faith-based educational resource that has been teaching local children for 60 years. The theme for the 2009 Footlights event is “Pirates of St. Peter’s”, and we are proud to announce the musical talent of 215 West, a band that has toured the world showcasing their repertoire of music style ranging from 1950’s rock and roll to Motown to classic rock and beyond.

The world-class music is only one part of the entertainment visitors can expect at Footlights this year. Everyone will have a great time either showing off their own singing talents in the lip sych room, enjoying a quiet moment in our guitar bar, taking part in a game of Texas Hold’em or poker in our full casino, or enjoying some of the culinary delights available right from the on-site restaurant.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6th and November 7th at Fr. Hanley Hall in St. Peter School at 900 St. Peter Street in Antioch. Greenfield Park, West Allis, The WARRIOR 5K...through the park is designed to be a unique opportunity for high school, college and running enthusiasts in southeastern Wisconsin. This race offers the competitive feel of a cross country race in late fall. It is intended to be a team-focused event, stressing the importance and overall benefits of teamwork. We invite all abilities and ages. This event also serves as a fundraiser and community outreach for the Wisconsin Lutheran College cross country teams.

TAOIST TAI CHI™ CLASSES TO BEGIN IN RACINE

RACINE (September 13, 2009) – The Taoist Tai Chi Society of the USA will begin offering classes in tai chi chuan at the DeKoven Center in Racine September 28 and 30.

Classes will be held Monday and Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Assembly Hall of the Center, 600 21st Street, Racine. (Enter on Wisconsin Ave).

Students may attend one or both classes each week in Racine and take additional classes at our locations in Chicago and its suburbs for no additional charge.

Beginner classes last about four months, during which students learn the complete sequence of the Taoist Tai ChiTM set. After that, students take continuing classes to deepen their practice of tai chi chuan.

The Taoist Tai Chi Society® internal arts of health incorporate stretching and turning within a sequence of movements that improve the health of body, mind and spirit. Diligent practice of tai chi chuan can reduce tension, improve circulation and balance and increase strength and flexibility.

Visitors are always welcome. Prospective students can attend their first class at no obligation. Wear loose, comfortable close and gym shoes without much tread. New member fee packages and senior or family rates are available.

The International Taoist Tai Chi Society is a charitable organization with more than 500 branches in 28 countries and 29 states. All instructors are nationally accredited volunteers.
Orientation for Master Gardener Volunteer Training Program

Kenosha County Center, Master Gardener Volunteers are specially educated volunteers, who share their knowledge and passion for gardening and the natural world with others

In 2010, Master Gardener General Training will be held every Tuesday evening from 5:30 – 8:30 pm from February 2nd through April 27th. Half of the classes will be taught in Bristol, at the Kenosha County Center. The other half of the classes will be taught in Ives Grove at the Racine County Office Building. The course is taught by University of Wisconsin Extension horticulture educators.

In addition to attending one of the Orientation Sessions, a signed commitment to 24-hours of volunteer work and a criminal background check are required prior to beginning the course. Volunteer hours must be on approved Master Gardener projects and completed by October 1, 2010. The course fee is $160, which covers the costs of all materials needed for the class. Class is limited to 40 participants.

Topics covered (as time allows) will be tabs, columns, breaks, tables, pictures, special characters and features, and use of the drawing toolbar.

This will be a fast paced, hands-on class. Prerequisites: significant experience using Word and a mastery of basic formatting, cutting and pasting and click and drag techniques, as well as use of the computer mouse. Taking the basic Word class is not sufficient – you should also have several hours of experience and be very comfortable with word processing.

CAS Italia Gala Dinner and Auction

Infusino's Banquet Hall, Join the Choral Arts Society musical family for the Italia Gala Dinner Dance and Live and Silent Auction. Enjoy Infusino's scrumptious Italian cuisine, with lively music for listening or dancing, from A&D Entertainment. The silent auction will feature unique creations from area artists and craftspeople, as well as tickets, gift baskets, gift certificates and more. Selected special items will be featured in a live auction. All proceeds will benefit the Choral Arts Society's current season, including Handel's Messiah. Open seating for the dinner is $17 for adults and $12 for children under 12 yrs.; a reserved table for 8 guests, which includes two bottles of wine is $150.
