| Northern Lights Gallery is pleased to present the work of Maria Varga. An opening reception will be held on Gallery Night, November 21, 2009. This will be her first U.S. show featuring water color paintings of Racine landmarks created since arriving here from Austria in March 2009.
Varga is formally trained in theatrics, and worked for Hungarian Radio and Television as a commercial editor for a number of years. However painting has always been a part of her life. Varga prefers encaustic painting, an ancient technique using melted bees wax with pigment added, a skill she learned while studying in Austria and France. In Austria, Maria studied with Art Professor Robert Colnago and in France she studied at the Axel Anderson Art Academy in Paris. Her work has been shown at various expositions throughout Europe, including the Vienna Institue of Arts and Crafts, and in Athens at the Greek and Austrian Cultural Institute.
Varga has held solo shows in Greece, Austria, Switzerland, and Hungary where her oil, encaustic, and water color paintings were enthusiastically received. In the brief time she has been in the States, she has accumulated a significant portfolio of water colors capturing many of Racine’s famous landmarks in stark realism. The explosive combination of realism with the calming affect of water colors will leave those seeing her work for the first time awe struck by the interpretive detail she has achieved.
We look forward to welcoming you to Gallery Night and an opening reception for Maria Varga on Saturday November 21st at Northern Lights Gallery. While in the gallery enjoy the music of Parkside music major David Ramsey. Refreshments and appetizers will be served
