Silver Lake man faces sex charges
A former Silver Lake president and police officer is accused of engaging in sexual intercourse with multiple teen boys.
Ronald C. Wieland, 71, allegedly committed the most recent offense in his village home last week, according to a criminal complaint.
The complaint alleges Wieland gave alcohol and marijuana to a 15-year-old boy before sexually assaulting him. He is charged with two felony counts of sexual assault of a child younger than 16.
Wieland, arrested Thursday, is free on a $20,000 cash bond that was posted Saturday, according to jail records. He is set to have a preliminary hearing in Kenosha County Circuit Court today.
Authorities executed a search warrant of Wieland’s residence and took him into custody after the boy and his mother reported the alleged assault to Silver Lake police early Thursday.
The complaint states the boy and another male, 16, were watching a movie at Wieland’s house last Wednesday night when Wieland lured the victim into a bedroom. The boy reportedly told Wieland to stop what he was doing but was afraid, as firearms were visible throughout Wieland’s house.
After the alleged assault occurred, the victim reportedly emerged from the bedroom looking scared, said, “We have to leave right now,” and ran back to his home with the other teen.
In a follow-up interview with police the next day, the boy admitted he and the other teen had drunk shots of Southern Comfort whiskey and smoked marijuana that Wieland provided.
Officers conducting the search of Wieland’s house found a small plastic container containing traces of marijuana leaves and an open bottle of Southern Comfort in a cabinet. Investigators also found clothing belonging to the victim, as well as different types of firearms all over the house, the complaint said.
The complaint also makes references to tips Silver Lake Police Chief Dan Kingsley received from Kenosha County Jail inmates recently, alleging Wieland committed “numerous” sexual assaults upon area young men over the past several years.
A 16-year-old boy identified through these tips confirmed to police he had been victimized at Wieland’s house “countless times” when he was between 7 and 12 years old.
Wieland was on the Silver Lake Village Board from 1974 to 1983, serving as its president from 1979 to 1983, when he lost a re-election bid. He attempted to return to the board in 2005, losing the president’s race to Jeff Albrecht.
According to newspaper records, Wieland is a Chrysler retiree, a former security consultant at Dairyland Greyhound Park and was a part-time Silver Lake police officer in the early 1970s.
Reached at his home by telephone Tuesday, Wieland declined to comment about the allegations.
