Single gunshot wound killed Brighton man
The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a home invasion and murder of a 50-year-old man this morning.
Sheriff David Beth identified the victim in a morning news conference as Robin W. Leydel. Beth said he died of a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Deputies were called at 12:10 this morning to Leydel’s residence in the 23900 block of Highway K, in Brighton. Leydel’s wife reported “men with guns” had entered the residence and were downstairs fighting with her husband. The woman told dispatchers the suspects were looking for drugs and money.
In a 911 call played for reporters during the news conference, she gave detailed descriptions of the suspects, whom she said were still in the house while she talked openly on the phone. That information helped dispatchers lead deputies who were in the area to the suspects as they fled on Highway K.
A deputy responding to the scene saw the suspects’ 2008 Mazda speeding west on Highway K, followed the vehicle and stopped it on Highway 83, just south of Highway 50.
Deputies arrested John M. Navigato, 50, of Bristol; Teddy Bieker, 19, of Kenosha; Brian Suchecki, 37, of Twin Lakes; and Richard Beeter, 54, of Lake Villa, Ill.
Beth said all four men were located in the car along with weapons.
The suspects were being interviewed by Kenosha Sheriff's Department detectives, and authorities say the home invasion did not appear to be a random act.
