Authorities have arrested a man who could be tied to the theft of more than $4,000 worth of copper pipes and brass fittings from a construction trailer at Salem Grade School.

The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department said Friday that deputies arrested a 37-year-old Walworth County man for possession of stolen property after information from Burlington Police led Kenosha County authorities to him.

The investigation led authorities to a Burlington scrap yard owner who said the suspect dropped off a pickup truck full of plumbing parts. Investigators confirmed the scraps had been 10 to 20 foot lengths that the suspect appeared to have cut into smaller pieces to sell as scrap. The plumbing worker also confirmed the scraps were the stolen pieces because they were unique to the school construction site.

The suspect, who was taken into custody during a traffic stop, denied stealing the parts and said he had collected the scraps while working at various job sites during the last five years, according to reports.
