Heed the speed limits, police say
Dear Ask a Cop,
Q: What is the speed limit on Kenosha streets that do not have a speed limit sign?
Concerned Parent
A: Dear Concerned Parent,
The speed limit on Kenosha residential side streets is 25 mph. Children will soon be out of school and playing outside, so please spread the word. We all need to HEED THE SPEED. Evidence shows higher speeds are associated with more severe pedestrian injuries and death. The numbers below illustrate this point.
Drivers who travel at:
n 20 mph have a 5 percent chance of being in a crash where a pedestrian is killed.n 30 mph have a 45 percent chance of being in a crash where a pedestrian is killed.n 40 mph have an 85 percent chance of being in a crash where a pedestrian is killed.Q: What is the curfew law in the City of Kenosha Police Department?
Neighborhood Watch Block Captain
A: Dear Block Captain,
The curfew law is covered under ordinance 11.05. The ordinance restricts minors under the age of 18 from being in a public place between the hours of 10:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from midnight to 6 a.m. Friday and Saturday, unless accompanied by an adult person having legal custody of such the minor. There are some exceptions for coming home from work and a school or church functions. The entire ordinance can be found on the city of Kenosha’s Web site at http://www.kenosha.org/ . Any time you see suspicious activity, call the police at 656-1234 and allow us to check on the situation.
Spring and summer are also a great time to have your annual Neighborhood Watch meeting. If you would like to schedule your meeting or if you have any questions about Neighborhood Watch call the Crime Prevention Unit at 657-EYES (3937).
