Middle school teams don’t lack attention

For the person who wrote in about the middle schools not getting any “ink” I beg to differ.

I was the head football coach at Lance Junior High/Middle School for 12 years. In the 12 years we won the championship six times. Three of those teams went undefeated. The other three all had one loss. And those losses were to out of city schools. We lost to Racine Park twice and Racine Horlick once. An initative I started at that level — I got the approval of the Unified Athletic Department and my principal at the time and scheduled those “extra games.” Even though the Racine schools had started practice in the middle of August and we didn’t start practice till the first day of school, and the Racine schools had two or three games under their belts already, it was well worth it. And just so you know the Kenosha News Sports Department always covered our games because I would send them a small paragraph or two each week after our games and they were more than happy to print it.

I never expected the News sports department to come and cover our games in person, although they did one time when we played Linccoln for the championship. They even took pictures for the paper. But my point is the coaches on that level need to take the lead and supply the News with the information. Even at the high school level they can’t cover every county high school sporting event. .
