If our governor and elected officials (city, state, national) won’t give us our casino and we need tax dollars, let’s tax disposable diapers in the same manner as alcohol and tobacco. I believe that hospitals, daycare settings and the like should have them available at a substantial discount.
I feel that the disposable diaper is more of an “I want” item as opposed to “I need.” I had three children, two in diapers (cloth) at the same time. I worked full time, juggled home, church, PTA, Scouts, 4-H and the like and I still managed to keep my children clean and comfortable. I did not always have a washer and dryer at home and I was also limited on money. A trip to the laundromat was more economical than a couple of packages of diapers every week or so and when the kids were trained, they made excellent cleaning rags. Recycle. I used disposables only in emergencies, doctor’s appointments, travel, etc.
I feel that the disposables are a luxury and should be taxed as such. If you want the convenience, pay for it. What a relief to our landfills and planet. Think green.
