Caban nets SEC’s top soccer honor
Considering that he was one of 36 players in the country to participate in a training camp for the national U-18 team, it was a no-brainer that David Caban was named the Southeast Conference Player of the Year this week.
Honored by the league’s coaches, the talented junior midfielder was one of five Trojans selected to the 13-player first team.
WIAA Division-1 State champion and SEC champion Muskego also had five first-team performers.
Junior midfielder Henrik Egly, senior defender Alex Ridolfi, junior defender Connor Hildebrandt and senior forward Jesus Oseguera were the other Trojans to join Caban on the first team.
Bradford had a pair of first-team performers — sophomore midfielder Cesar Gutierrez and senior defender Jeff Reyes.
The 13-player second team included Tremper forward Nathan Oster, Bradford forward Esaie Lira and Tremper goalkeeper Jimmy Jones.
Among the players to be named honorable mention were Bradford’s Vigan Zeqiri, Dylan Rausch and Kiko Delgado and Tremper’s Matt Vecchitto, Matt Steinmetz and Gabe Puterbaugh.
All-SEC golf
Tremper sophomore Jaime Elsen was one of five players to be named first-team All-SEC in golf.
Bradford senior Rochelle Smith was one of five players on the second team.
Bradford’s Michelle Pruett and Tremper’s Kayla Asleson were honorable mention picks.
All-area golfElsen was one of 12 players to be named honorable mention All-Area in golf by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel recently.
Waukesha freshman Emily Joers received Player of the Year honors. Peter Reeves of Milwaukee Pius XI was picked as the Coach of the Year.
