Company can keep selling fireworks in village
TWIN LAKES — The prohibition of many types of fireworks in Twin Lakes — including sparklers — won’t keep companies from wanting to sell them from tents in the village.
The Village Board approved a request by Black Bull Fireworks Monday night to do just that.
Deanna Delimate, co-owner of Black Bull, said the village’s new ordinance only eliminates two products from its traditional sales inventory — sparklers and smoke bombs.
“Obviously we feel we still have enough to make it worth doing, or we wouldn’t be here,” Delimate said.
Black Bull sells fireworks at various locations in Twin Lakes, Lake Geneva, Elkhorn, Burlington, East Troy and Waterford.
Under the village’s new ordinance, it is now unlawful to sell, use, keep, discharge or explode firecrackers, sparklers, bottle rockets, cherry bombs, smoke bombs, Roman candles or other fireworks containing any explosive or flammable compound.
The list of fireworks still allowable includes toy snakes, certain caps and paper confetti streamers, as well as cylindrical and cone fountains.
Trustee Tom Connolly, who has 41 years of experience in fire and rescue, pushed hard for the change and provided both printed and visual material to other board members about the danger of fireworks — specifically of sparklers.
Initially, the discussion centered on the prohibition of the sale of fireworks that are illegal by state law to be set off. However, the amendment approved by the Village Board also prohibits the use or possession of most fireworks.
Connolly and trustee Mike Moran voted against allowing Black Bull Fireworks to sell its products under a temporary tent in the village last July.
This time they voted in favor of the request, as it falls within the guidelines established under the amended ordinance.
