County squads clash tonight
The second-seeded Central and third-seeded Tremper girls volleyball teams will renew their rivalry when they square off in a WIAA Division-1 sectional semifinal 8 tonight at Burlington.
The match follows the other semifinal match between top-seeded Burlington and fourth-seeded Mukwonago, which gets under way at 6 p.m.
Burlington was ranked fourth in the final Wisconsin Coaches Association state poll.
The semifinal winners will meet in the sectional final 7 p.m. Saturday at Lake Geneva Badger with a berth to the State Tournament on the line.
As the No. 3 seed last year, Tremper topped No. 2 seed Central in a sectional semifinal at Janesville Craig, 20-25, 25-21, 25-10, 25-14.
The Trojans then defeated Burlington in the sectional final and went on to win their first State championship.
Central and Tremper met earlier this season at the West Bend Sprawl on Sept. 25.
The Falcons swept the Trojans in a pool-play match, 25-22, 25-17.
Tremper has advanced to the State Tournament two years in a row.
Central had its eight-year streak of qualifying for the State Tournament snapped last year.
Pacers face Dominican
Two victories away from qualifying for the State Tournament for the second year in a row, Shoreland Lutheran will take on Whitefish Bay Dominican in a WIAA Division-3 sectional semifinal 7 tonight at Random Lake.
The winner will play the winner between Laconia and fifth-ranked Oostburg in the sectional final 7 p.m. Saturday at Racine Prairie.
The Pacers defeated Oostburg and Sheboygan Lutheran in a pair of four-set sectional matches last year.
