Three hurt when driver falls asleep, van hits tree
SOMERS — Three people suffered serious injuries Tuesday when the driver of a van reportedly fell asleep.
A Kenosha County Sheriff’s report said the crash occurred at 3:12 a.m. Tuesday while Agripino Barbosa, 29, of Kenosha, was driving a Pontiac Trans Sport north in the 1600 block of 12th Avenue. Barbosa told deputies he fell asleep, and the van to crossed veered off the road, struck a mailbox and then a tree.
Barbosa was taken to a Kenosha hospital along with two passengers, Stephanie M. Baumann, 23, of Kenosha, and Bradley N. Stout, 34, of Pleasant Prairie. All three have since been released from the hospital, Sheriff’s Sgt. Gil Benn said.
Barbosa was ticketed with inattentive driving, driving on the wrong side of the road, operating with a suspended license and knowingly operating with a suspended license.
Reports said the victims were not wearing seat belts.
