UWP’s Rynish wrestles to 174-pound crown
All 12 UW-Parkside wrestlers placed in the top six at Saturday’s 15-team St. Cloud (Minn.) State Open.
Luke Rynish (12-4 season record) went 4-0 and won the Rangers’ lone individual title by defeating Northern Iowa’s Brice Wolf 9-6 in the 174-pound championship match.
Dillon Berra (13-3 at 157), Matt Gille (12-4 at 165) and Jon Treml (8-6 at 197) all went 3-1 and finished second.
Parkside’s third-place finishers included Cody Zimmerman (12-2 at 125), Craig Becker (10-1 at 149) and Lucas Haag (15-5 at 184). Zimmerman and Haag both went 5-1, while Becker finished 6-1.
UW-P’s Brandon Kircher lost to Zimmerman in the third-place match and finished fourth. Arik Yde (141) and Ryan Katona (165) each finished fifth, while Ryan Woods (174) and Curtis Hines (184) both placed sixth.
The Rangers wrestle 7 p.m. Wednesday in a dual meet at UW-Whitewater.
