Brighton officials rein in town budget
BRIGHTON — Town officials were successful in altering the 2010 Budget to adhere to the 3 percent levy increase limit set by residents at a hearing last week.
A resolution to allow the town to levy more than the state-imposed 3 percent increase failed for lack of a majority by a tie vote. Town officials had proposed a 19.5 percent increase in the levy. The vote required clerk Linda Perona to quickly recalculate the tax impact and town officials were left to find a way to cut the already reduced budget.
