Burglars take guns, vehicles as victim goes hunting
Firearms, vehicles and electronics were reportedly stolen from a residence on 41st Street sometime this week while the family was away on a deer hunting trip. By Friday, police had recovered one of the vehicles, found abandoned in the Bristol Industrial Park.
At 1 p.m. Friday, a report of an abandoned Jeep with a boat and trailer attached was called in to the Racine County Sheriff’s Department. With help from the Kenosha Police Department it was determined all three were among the items reported stolen. They were towed and entered into evidence as recovered stolen property.

The long list of still-missing items includes 22 firearms, a 1987 Porsche 928, a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle, a compound bow, scuba gear and electronic equipment.
Kenosha police were called to a home in the 7200 block of 41st Street Thursday by the owner’s sister, who found a door pried open when she showed up to feed and exercise the dogs. A key was also reportedly broken off in the door handle.
According to a police report, several rooms were ransacked and ammunition was scattered about. Officers called the owner on his cell phone. He told police he owns approximately 30 firearms, five of which he had with him for hunting. Police found three guns in the home.
Based on further telephone discussion with the owner, police were able to identify other items obviously missing from the home, the garage and the driveway. His dogs were found safely contained in cages in the basement of the home. The man told police Friday he was on his way home to assess what else was stolen.
With the help of a description provided by an officer, the homewner identifed the keys in the lock as a set of keys he left in the cab of his work truck, which he dropped off for maintenance at the Wilmot Service Center prior to leaving on the hunting trip. He told police the truck was parked in the lot at the center and an employee of his electrical service company had keys to the equipment box in the bed of the truck, but not to the cab.
Police found a window on the passenger side of the work truck broken. The owner of the service center said surveillance cameras record video of the area where the truck is parked. Police will review those tapes.
