Court Roundup: Drunken driver arrested for sixth time while out on bond
A Genoa City man with a pending case for driving drunk a fifth time also is facing charges for driving drunk a sixth time.
A hearing is scheduled next month for Curtis B. Karch, 41, who faces three years in prison if convicted for the sixth offense case in Kenosha County. He faces another three years for the fifth offense charge in Walworth County.
Karch was out of jail on bond for an alleged March 2009 drunken-driving incident when he was arrested in July for allegedly driving under the influence in Salem.
A sheriff’s deputy arrested Karch after he allegedly crossed the center line in the 9900 block of Highway 83, near Antioch Road.
When asked to get out of his car for field sobriety tests, Karch reportedly declined.
“Hell no,” he said. “I’m not OK to drive.”
When the deputy asked why Karch should not have been driving, he said, “You know why. I am not going to tell you.”
No blood alcohol level was available for Karch, who refused to do sobriety tests.
A trial is scheduled next month in the Walworth County case. No trial date has been set for the Kenosha County file.
Karch is in jail in Kenosha County because he has not posted bond.
Jail time ordered
for drunken driver
A Racine man whose driver’s license was revoked 13 years ago must serve one year in jail for driving drunk for the fifth time.
Kenosha County Circuit Judge Mary Wagner also ordered three years community supervision for Brandon J. Harris, 30.
Harris pleaded guilty to driving drunk as a fifth offense and faced three years in prison.
Police arrested Harris in June after he allegedly hit a sign in the 1900 block of Alford Park Drive. No one was hurt in the crash, which knocked down a median sign.
Harris admitted drinking and failed field sobriety tests. Harris and a passenger said Harris lost control after a tire blew out.
Harris’ drunken-driving convictions date back to February 1996, when his license was revoked. His driving privileges had not been restored at the time of the crash. His most recent drunken-driving conviction was in January 2007.
