A $3.5 million settlement has been approved for the family of a Pleasant Prairie man killed last year in a Kenosha County motorcycle crash.

Clinton Callahan, 35, was killed July 25, 2008, after his motorcycle was hit by a car at 128th Street and 47th Avenue, near the Wisconsin-Illinois border, in Pleasant Prairie.

Reports indicate Callahan was traveling west on 128th Street, when Aimee Madrigano, 16, pulled out from a stop sign at 47th Avenue. Callahan hit Madrigano’s car. She was ticketed for failure to yield.

Police did not refer other charges. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, and Callahan was wearing a helmet.

In a settlement with the Met Life insurance company, Callahan’s widow, Randi, was awarded $1.1 million. Their child will receive $1.7 million, while a step-child will get $750,000, attorney Jason Abraham said. The rest of the settlement will go toward attorney fees.

Abraham, who represents motorcycle accident victims throughout the Midwest, said Callahan’s death was a bitter reminder about the need for motorcycle awareness — a cause his Milwaukee firm has championed through billboards, bumper stickers and television commercials throughout the last year.

The case settled out of court, but was approved last month by a Milwaukee County Circuit Court judge. Any settlements dealing with children receiving money must be approved by the court.
