Immigrant advocacy group honors UW-P grad for efforts on tuition bill
A University of Wisconsin-Parkside student who urged the passage of a bill that led to in-state tuition for children of undocumented workers was awarded for her activism Thursday night.
Yazmin Romero, 23, along with UW-Milwaukee student Valeria Gonzalez, shared the Richard Oulahan Youth Activist Award given by Voces de la Frontera, Wisconsin’s largest immigrant advocacy group. The late Richard Oulahan was the director of Esperanza Unida, a Milwaukee agency that offers job training and placement for workers. He died in 2008.
