Inmate dies after found hanged in cell


A Kenosha County Jail inmate died Saturday after she was found hanging in her cell.

According to the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department, jail staff found Bonnie L. Kimberly, 35, of Brighton, around 6:45 a.m. in her cell in the pre-trial facility in downtown Kenosha. Correctional officers and on-site nursing staff attempted life-saving measures, according the investigators. The Kenosha Fire Department also responded.

She was taken to Kenosha Medical Center where life-saving measures were continued, authorities said. She was admitted to the critical care unit but died of her injuries around 10:30 p.m.

The Sheriff’s Department summoned the Racine County Sheriff’s Department to investigate the death.

Police: Armed robber of hotel identified

Authorities have arrested a man suspected of robbing Best Western, 7220 122nd Ave., Thursday night at knifepoint.

Kenosha Police said Christopher Hornezes, 27, was apprehended by U.S. marshals on Saturday in Waukega, Ill., and is being held in a Chicago jail.

According to police, Hornezes was wearing women’s clothing, including panty hose and heavy makeup, when he robbed the hotel while wielding a large knife and fled the scene.

Hornezes was released from an Illinois prison on Wednesday. He is believed to have robbed several Lake County, Ill., businesses since his release.

Man arrested for OWI

A 39-year-old Kenosha man was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated Saturday night in the 5600 block of 52nd Street.

According to police, Luis Martinez was pulled over after officers observed him driving erratically. Martinez failed a field sobriety test. He was also cited for deviating from the designated lane.
