Kenosha News readers share their favorite holiday lights
Once again, we asked readers to help us point out some outstanding Kenosha County holiday lighting displays — and they did! Thanks for your help:
“Excellent lights are located at 16th Street and 36 Avenue in the cul-de-sac (in Hunters Ridge subdivision).”
Another northside house that attracted a reader’s attention is at 3527 22nd Ave.
“Once again the family at 5821 68th St. created a new scene in their garage window,” a reader told us. “This year it’s a gingerbread house along with gingerbread people. You really need to see the detail. I can’t imagine the time and effort that went into creating the house and all it’s delicious trimmings. You’ve got to see it!”
Brandon Deacon also likes the home at 5821 68th St. “They have an awesome window display of a giant gingerbread house. I can’t imagine how much time and effort was put into this to share with the community.”
Steve Hartfield tells us: “Don’t forget to visit Kenosha’s original holiday lights show on Christmas Lane (68th Street west of 60th Avenue) and the entire Christmas Lane area. Enjoy thousands of Christmas lights without the “Clark Griswold” effect. New and different displays are up this year along with many familiar standards. For the 18th year, food for the Shalom Center is being collected at 6129 68th St.”
Ed Wember recommends “viewing the lights in Somers on Highway H just south of Highway E. These are lights teamed with music heard on FM-88.3. My kids just loved it and ask to go and hear Eric Cartman sing ‘Oh Holy Night’ again. The display is purely magical and should not be missed.”
Another reader tells us: “There is a cool holiday light display at 8414 12th Place in Kenosha. This house has a Kenosha address but is acually located in the town of Somers. It features inflatables, flashing light diplays with music, and so on. Worth checking out. These people put some time and money in this display.”
James and Carri Kiehl once again have coordinated their lights to music at 6834 106th Ave. The display runs from 5 to 10 p.m. daily. (Tune into 101.3 FM.)
The Kiehls told us cars line up to watch the show each year. “When setting up this year’s display, we had many folks stopping and saying how much they really enjoyed the display and how seeing it get set up really puts them in the Christmas mood. Thank you to all at Kenosha News for letting us share our display.
“This year, our display has expanded. We have added lights to the roof and built a 10-foot tree from some PVC pipe. Our display has over 25,000 lights and plays 30 songs broadcasted on 101.3 FM.”

Dannette Cates says her husband really went all out decorating their home at 26912 89th St. in Salem.
Dannette’s neighbor, Karen Kovacevich, also wrote in about the Cates’ lights, saying: “You have to see it. It is the best light decoration I have ever seen.”
Also, Lynn Eberle told us about the Cates home, saying, “For the past couple years, our family finds a lot of fun looking at a house here in Salem. The address is 26912 89th St. It looks so much like the Griswalds from ‘Christmas Vacation.’ It’s fun for everyone.”
Melanie Davidson tells us: “My suggestion for a great holiday lights display is at my parents house at 6027 Fifth Ave. What makes this display so special is that my dad hand-creates all of the garland around the picture window and the flower boxes and lamp post. It is a beautiful traditional arrangement of greens, ornaments and lights. Our entire family enjoys his talented creations throughout their entire house, but the outside display always brings a smile to our faces as we pull in the driveway for a visit!”
Another reader tells us: “Every year, my husband works really hard to set up our holiday lights. I have seen him work out there for hours even in the bitter cold, snow, and freezing rain to to try and have everything up and running by Dec. 1st. It is such a comfort to know that even though our economy is the way it is and so many people have heavy hearts this holiday season for their own personal reasons, that when people drive by, their face lights up and they comment on the beautiful display and you can just see for that moment they can put their minds to ease and enjoy themselves.
“I hope that you are able to enjoy yourself also by driving by 7945 46th Ave. and you have a wonderful holiday.”
Another lights-and-music house can be found on the north side home of Chuck and Kathy Diel, 1839 18th Ave.
Joni Willkomm suggests that people drive past the home at 422 School St. in Silver Lake for some festive holiday lights.
Another reader likes the lights outside the Petretti Apartments on 18th street, just west of 22nd Avenue. “They look wonderful this year!!!! The people who do it, they use a pole to put up the lights on those trees ... not a bucket ... a pole!!!! They do a nice job!!!”
Taran Scheppa tells us: “There is a house on the corner of 80th Street and 46th Avenue (it is a grayish blue house that is kind of set back), with a lot of Christmas lights and decorations out. I was completely amazed when I drove by the house. I had to stop and take pictures. My two young children have me drive past the house most every night so they can see the lights.
“All I can say is, drive past it. It’s beautiful.”
That might be the same house mentioned by another reader, who says: “The house at 7945 46th Ave. is well worth checking out. It is so colorful and really helps to put you into the holiday spirit. Every year there seems to be some new things out as well as some different scene setups.”
Jim and Christy Bury recommend that people “check out the Pursers’ lights at 3441 121st Place (Pleasant Prairie). Jimmy Ray works on this all year, and this year it’s even better than ever! Tons of dancing lights set to music, a new magician/wizard and Santa directing the show from an upstairs window are some of the highlights. Many of the other houses in the neighborhood are also ‘dressed up’ for the holidays too — watch out Christmas Lane!!!”
