Keep an eye on your mailbox, in the newspaper and online for polling place changes in the city of Kenosha so you don’t wind up at the wrong location this year to cast your ballot in person.
Kenosha County Clerk Mary Kubicki said Tuesday the new ward-by-ward listing of 2018 polling places should be posted by her office at www.kenoshacounty.org no later than this afternoon.
City voters will need to be diligent to ensure they show up at the right polling places for their particular wards.
Six of nine polling places in 2017 that are absent from this year’s list are Kenosha Unified School District schools.
“It’s all about security,” Kubicki said. “The schools really don’t want to put their kids at risk with people, including strangers, coming in and out of the building all day.”
Bose Elementary School, 1900 15th St., is the only school of any kind on the list for 2018. The venue will again serve wards 1 and 16 this year, as well as four additional wards: 2, 19, 98 and 99.
There, the school permits the gym to house voting booths without it interfering with other areas in the building, Kubicki said. The Educational Support Center, 3600 52nd St., again will serve as a polling place, but for six wards instead of three.
Three former polling venues no longer on the list for 2018 are North Shore Bank, Heritage Baptist Church and St. John’s Lutheran Church.
However, 2018 will have six altogether new polling locations. Additional spaces have opened at Kenosha Bible Church, 5405 67th St., and the Kenosha County Job Center, 8600 Sheridan Road.
