Murder suspect attempts to hang himself
An inmate at the Kenosha County jail, who is accused of killing his wife, attempted to hang himself on Monday.
A Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department Correctional Officer found Jose Leon-Colon, 42, hanging inside his cell at the Kenosha County Jail shortly after 4 p.m. Monday. Leon-Colon was unresponsive when first found, but the correctional officer started life-saving efforts and was able to establish a pulse.
The Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday morning that Leon-Colon remained unconscious and in critical condition.
Leon-Colon was being housed in the jail’s medical ward due to health needs. He has been in the jail since Aug. 11 related to a homicide charge.
The Kenosha man is accused of stabbing his wife, Carmen D. Santos-Padilla, to death in Kenosha on Aug. 7. Leon-Colon reportedly admitted to stabbing his wife because he was angry when he suspected her of having an affair with the family pastor.
A final pre-trial hearing for Leon-Colon is set for Nov. 20.
The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to investigate this incident.
