New app allows drivers to skip tollbooths on Illinois Tollways

Stuck in traffic waiting to get through the toll booth? You meant to get the I-Pass, but never got around to it?

Don’t despair. FastToll, a free tracking mobile app, can make your travel through Illinois’ toll roads an easier experience.

FastToll allows motorists to drive through the open-road (I-Pass) tolls on Illinois Tollways without having to stop at tollbooths to pay the fare by cash.

The app tracks each toll, and motorists pay within seven days of their travel.

Fast Toll covers all Illinois toll roads except for the eight-mile stretch of the Chicago Skyway bridge that has a different tolling system.

Motorists can pay the same standard cash rate with no additional fees through the Illinois Tollway website, or they can pay through FastToll with a small processing fee. The processing fee is 99 cents or 10 percent of the total toll payment, whichever is higher.

For example, if the total toll payment is $5.60, the processing fee is 99 cents. If the total is $21.20, the processing fee is $2.12.

Android users can download the app through the Google Play Store. iPhone users can download it through the App Store.

“We developed FastToll to benefit drivers without transponders, especially those who are unfamiliar with Illinois toll roads, so they can save time and avoid the stress of tollbooth stops,” said Radoslaw Mista, owner of Pragmistic LLC, which developed the app.

“Additionally, there are a number of tolls that are entirely electronic so drivers cannot pay cash at a booth. FastToll provides all essential information so drivers can pay tolls later and avoid unnecessary fines from the Illinois Tollway.”

Mista said the company hopes to make enhancements that will allow motorists to use the app in other states.

"FastToll was created to provide a convenience for drivers who do not wish to have an I-Pass account or for out-of-state drivers,” said Heather Mista, business operations manager for Pragmistic.

“An estimated 7 million vehicles will travel using the Illinois Tollway this Labor Day weekend, and not having to stop to pay the tolls will be saving everyone time and get them to their vacation destination much quicker.”
