PADDOCK LAKE — A boat collision on Paddock Lake on Sunday afternoon left one person injured and one boat partially submerged.

Around 3:45 p.m. Sunday, Kenosha County Sheriff’s Lt. Ken Weyker said it appeared a motor-powered boat accelerated into another boat, which was stationary, in the lake. The impact caused the stationary boat to begin sinking.

Weyker said three people were believed to be in the moving boat and five were in the stationary watercraft. Weyker said it appears that most of the five people in the boat were able to jump off before impact.

One woman in the boat that was struck suffered lacerations and injuries to her legs and feet and was taken from the scene for medical treatment. The injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

The moving boat was being operated by a juvenile, Weyker said, but the driver had a valid safety permit. Alcohol was not suspected in the collision.

“It just seems to be an unfortunate accident,” Weyker said.

The Department of Natural Resources was expected to take over the recovery of the scene and investigation of the crash. The damaged boat was expected to be removed from the water on Sunday night.

Members of the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department and Salem Fire and Rescue initially responded to the scene.
