Our mother, Lorraine M. Krome (nee: Arents), 83, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, surrounded by family and friends in her home.
Lorraine was born on March 25, 1928, to Mary (Herman) and Adam Arents. She graduated from local schools, and upon completion of trade school, worked at Great Lakes Naval Air Station. On May 2, 1953, she married Edmund G. Krome at St. George Catholic Church. She was proud of her four children; day care operator, Sharon A. (Mike) Peters, Janesville; author and professor, Mary A. Krome, Kenosha; bus driver, Carl K. Krome, Kenosha; and hospice nurse, Sandy M. (Jeff) Hub, St. Joseph, Mich.
Our mother’s kindnesses to strangers were innumerable. She often gave her own money, food and clothing to those less fortunate and volunteered her time to many worthy causes. During her lifetime, she took in and cared for several foster children. As a member of St. James Catholic Church, she monitored the playground and lunch room, coached the girls’ volleyball team and organized the first CYO Girl’s Volleyball League and tournament. She was a security patrol officer for the Kenosha County Fair Police, school security officer at Salem Central High School, Food Service Worker at Kenosha Unified School District and an aid at Laidlaw Transit for disabled children.
As a lifelong resident of Kenosha, our mother lived an active social life. She was on the Women’s bowling league and coached the girls’ team at Guttormsens, was an avid bingo player, on a cribbage league in Kenosha, and spent time with her many friends playing card and board games. Up to the end, she and her brother, Edward Arents, enjoyed challenging her children, Mary and Carl, to a brother/sister cribbage match.
In later years, under the care of her son, Carl, she loved spending time with her grandchildren; Lon (Julie), Jason (Kelly), Julie (Ned), Jeff, Kristen (Matt) and Amy; her great grandchildren; Skyler, Hailey, Isabel, Jacob, Jordan, Letisha, McKaylin, and Catyana; and her dogs, Bandit, Chloe, and Gismo.
She is preceded in death by Ed, her husband of 42 years; her sister, Marie Baron; and her grandson, Russell Peters.
A visitation will be held on (TODAY) Thursday, April 28, 2011, at Kenosha Funeral Services from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 29, 2011, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Burial St. George Cemetery.
