Evelyn E. Farris

1922 – 2011

Evelyn E. Farris, 88, of Zion, Ill., passed away on Monday, June 20, 2011, in Kenosha, Wis.

She was born Oct. 7, 1922, in Montgomery, Ala.

She was a faithful member of the Coleman Chapel AME Church, Kenosha, Wis., since 1966 where she served as president of the Missionary Society, President of the Lay Organization, the Steward Board, and Senior Choir. She also served two terms as Area Chairman for the North Area AME Missionary Society. She was the Director of Lay Activities for the Milwaukee District. She also served as First Vice President of the Chicago Conference Missionary Society.

She is survived by a brother, Clarence (Etta) Holmes of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters, Ada McMillan and Lillian Brown, both of Kenosha, Wis.; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. David and Dora Holmes; two brothers, Emory Holmes and Leonard Holmes; a sister, Estelle Rogers, and her husband, William Farris.

The Home Going Celebration will be at the Coleman Chapel A.M.E. Church, 4111 30th Avenue, Kenosha, Wis., on Friday, June 24, 2011, at 11 a.m. Pastor Janice Cummings, Officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Green Ridge Cemetery, Kenosha, Wis.
