Paul Edward Brothen, 51, of Kenosha, passed away at his residence surrounded by his family's love on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011.
A lifelong resident of Kenosha, he was born on Feb. 8, 1960, and was the son of the late Orville and Linnea (Ashby) Brothen. Paul attended local schools and was a 1978 graduate of Tremper High School. He also attended Gateway Technical College.
For 16 years, Paul was an operations technician with Ocean Spray. Prior to Ocean Spray he was employed with Power Brace Company, the Zion Nuclear Power Plant and for 15 years the American Brass Company.
On Dec. 6, 1986, at St. Mary's Lutheran Church, he was married to Marilyn Kae Aul and they had three children.
He was a faithful member of St. Mary's Lutheran Church, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Lodge #66 and the Racine Bowmen Archery Club.
Paul was an avid sportsman and loved the outdoors. He was especially fond of fishing, took great pride in his vegetable garden, and enjoyed boating, camping and bicycle riding with his family. His excellent carpenter skills helped him become a home improvement specialist. He also enjoyed working on cars for himself and others. Paul had a heart that was bigger than life and he was generous to many local charities.
Paul will be remembered as a wonderful family man, always putting his wife and children first. He devoted his life to being a loving husband father and brother. After 25 wonderful years together, cherishing many memories, Paul will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Marilyn and three precious children, Elise Kae Brothen, Eric Paul Brothen and Emily Jean Brothen. Paul is also survived by his four siblings, Debra Brandt and Michael (Kathy) Brothen, both of Pleasant Prairie, Deanise (Gary) Kersting of Salem and Jenifer (Jim) Stanley of Kenosha.
He is further survived by his wife Marilyn's family. His mother-in-law, Beverly Funk of Racine; his father-in-law, Eugene Aul of Racine; her siblings, Victoria (Richard) Worden of Racine, Robin Gensler of Orange City, Fla., Susan Warner of Warsaw, Ind., Connie (John) Wisinski of Wind Lake and Melody (Keith) Epple and Gina (John) Conner, both of Racine; many loving nieces, nephews, godchildren and extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step father-in-law, Larry Funk.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Lutheran Church, 2001 80th Street. Interment will follow in Green Ridge Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home. Memorial remembrances to the family would be appreciated.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice Alliance, Inc. for the wonderful care they provided to Paul. Also, a special thank you to his "second family" at Ocean Spray for their generosity, love and support.
