Kathleen Mary Christenson, 78, of Bristol, Wis., passed away Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011 at her home.
She was born May 26, 1933, in Waukegan, Ill., the daughter of the late John H. "Harry" and Helen (Kelly) Sponenburg. Kathleen lived in Lake Villa, Ill., before settling in Bristol 22 years ago. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Wadsworth, Ill., and enjoyed gardening, doing yard work, reading, baking, and knitting. Kathleen especially cherished time spent with her grandchildren. She found joy in working, and had worked at Citizens Bank as an operations officer, then as a teller at the Gurnee National Bank, Gurnee, Ill.; she later worked at Pedersen GMC, Antioch, Ill., and she was currently working at Lynch Chevrolet in Burlington, Wis. On Dec. 20, 1953 she married Carl Christenson at St. Patrick Church, and he preceded her in death May 12, 1980.
Survivors include six children, Katherine (the late Don) Miller of Bristol, Susan (Henry) Krencis of Spring Grove, Ill., Cynthia (Frank) Rayniak of Lake Villa, Mary (Bryan) Polheber of Wadsworth, Carl (Debbie) of Kenosha, Wis., and Helen Nagel of Bristol; eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four siblings, Helen Mazlo of Waukegan, Donald (Jean) Sponenburg of Beach Park, Ill., Lois Dalziel of Waukegan, and Robert (Barbara) of Pulaski, Wis.. In addition to her parents and husband, Kathleen was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Francis Sponenburg.
Funeral services with Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011 at St. Patrick Church, 15000 W. Wadsworth Rd., Wadsworth, IL 60083. Please meet at Church. Interment will follow in Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, IL. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Strang Funeral Home of Antioch, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83) Antioch, IL. Info: 847-395-4000.
