John F. Rinda, 68, of Genoa City, Wis., died Sunday morning Oct. 16, 2011, at his home.

John Francis Rinda was born on Nov. 20, 1942, in Chicago, Ill., the son of the late Philip Francis and Lucille A. McMahon Rinda. On Feb. 8, 1964, he was united in marriage to Esther M. Edwards. Together they had two children Edward and Kim. On Aug. 11, 1990, at the First Congregational UCC in Genoa City, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Davis. He lived in Spring Grove from 1952 until moving to Genoa City in 1971.

John attended St. Peter’s Catholic School in Spring Grove, Ill., Richmond Burton High School and graduated from Marian Central High School in Woodstock, Ill. He was a former member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Spring Grove.

John worked for over 30 years as a sheet metal worker and shop foreman for Althoff Industries, Inc. in Crystal Lake retiring in 2008. He was a former member of the Spring Grove Fire Dept., the Genoa City Fire Dept., Genoa City Lions Club and the Sheet Metal Worker’s Union Local 73 and later Local 265. He was an avid racecar fan and raced with his brother Thomas and with John Wrzeszcz with the Genoa City Lion’s Club. He was active with the Genoa City Recreation Program coaching t-ball, little league and pony league. He was an avid Bear Fan. He enjoyed his tools and gadgets.

John is survived by his wife, Cheryl; one son, Edward Thomas (Tonya) Rinda of Cape Gerardeau, Mo.; one daughter, Kimberly Ann (Kurk) Paleka of Genoa City, Wis.; stepdaughter, Susan (Thomas) Sheehan of Madison, Wis.; eight grandchildren, Kayla, Jonathan, Allison, Taylor, Aaron, Natalie, Dane and Austin; one sister, Alice Thomas of Lyons, Wis.; one brother, Thomas (Mary) Rinda of Elmhurst, Ill.; and his former wife Esther M. Edwards.

John was preceded in death by four brothers-George I., Robert “Bud”, Philip, Jr., George W.; one sister, Lucille Hahn and a stepson, David Bill.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday Oct.. 20, 2011, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church 2118 Main St. Spring Grove, IL. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Genoa City. The Rinda Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, at the Haase-Derrick-Lockwood Funeral Home 620 Legion Dr. Twin Lakes, WI. Memorial remembrances may be made to the Genoa City Lions Club, the Genoa City Recreation Program or the 1st Congregational United Church of Christ in Genoa City.
