Martha Strakusek

1929 – 2011

Martha Strakusek, 82, of Kenosha passed away Tuesday morning, Oct. 18, at Aurora Medical Center.

Born on July 1, 1929, in Frankfurt, Germany, the daughter of the late Karl and Elsie (Fuller) Wingenfeld.

On May 31, 1947, she married Martin Strakusek. He preceded her in death Oct. 13, 2011.

She was the first woman School Bus driver in Lake County, Ill. Martha was also employed by Jewel Food Corp. as a meat wrapper.

A member of Good Shephard Lutheran Church. She enjoyed crafts and attending craft fairs

Surviving are her five children; Ingrid Strakusek, Harold Strakusek, Margaret (Tom) Luby, Robert (Eleanor) Strakusek, and Susan (Michael) Dunkleman; 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karin Strakusek and granddaughter, Kathryn Anderson.

Funeral services will be held for Martin and Martha on Friday, Oct. 21,, at Proko Funeral Home at 11 a.m. followed by full military honors for Martin. Interment will be held on Friday at Ridgewood Memorial Park in Des Plaines, Ill., at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be held on Friday at Proko Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the JDRF, and the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
