Russell Lyle Voigt

1923 – 2011

Russell Lyle Voigt, of Rochester, Minn., born May 11, 1923, as an only child to Paul Theodore Voigt and Ida Thyson, passed away on Oct. 14, 2011, at 88 years of age due to heart failure.

He is survived by his four children; sons, Jeffrey A. Voigt and Steven P. Voigt; daughter, Karen O. Clayton and adopted daughter, Sylvia Lyon.

He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Ruth Evelyn Avery. Russell was a resident of Racine County, Wis., from his birth until August of 2005. He spent his younger years on his father's farm near Raymond, Wis.

He spent more than 30 years as owner and operator of Voigt's Orchard in the town of Mt. Pleasant near Racine, Wis. He served his country as a Marine during WWII and recently participated in the October 8, 2011 Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He lived the remaining six years of his life in SE Rochester, Minn. He was active and faithful in The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

A funeral service for Russell will be held at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints (1002 16th Street Southeast, Rochester, MN) on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, with Bishop Darren Calley officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, prior to the funeral. Burial of Russell's body will happen on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
