Howard E. Kasten

1939 – 2011

Howard E. Kasten, 72, of Crocker, Mo, formerly of Wisconsin, passed away unexpectly at the Phelps County Medical Center, Rolla, Mo. He was born Aug. 29, 1939, in Lake Villa, IL the son of the late Emil B. and Frances L. (Perry) Kasten. Howard had worked as a millwright for American Motors Corporation and Chrysler Corp. in Kenosha, Wis., for 25 years retiring in 1999 when he moved to Missouri. Howard was a member of the interstate racing association, was a sportsman car driver and sprint car racing pit crew member. He also was a collector of John Deere memorabilia as well as having the actual equipment. He enjoyed watching wild life on his property where he built his own home after he retired.

On July 9, 1960, he married Beverley Mae Everett in Union Grove, Wis.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Beverly; his son, Ken (Judy) Kasten of Zion, Ill., and daughter, Kate (Scott) Kusman of Bristol, Wis.; five grandchildren, Andrea (Matt Burgess) Kusman of Bristol, Wis., Marissa Kusman of Bristol, Wis., Ashley Bunnell of Springfield, Mo., Nicholas (Lisa) Bunnell of S.t Louis, Mo., and David (Danielle) Kusman of Watseka, Ill.; two great grandchildren, Nevaeh and Gabe Kusman; four sisters, Edna Mae (Richard) Winfield of Richland, Mo., Joanne (Bob) Spenle of Chetek, Wis., Frances (Larry) Kunkel of Bristol, Wis., and Rose (James) Struck of Ashland, Wis.; a dear friend, Jill Spitz of Pleasant Prairie, Wis.; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at the Strang Funeral Home of Antioch, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83) Antioch, IL., with visitation beginning at 4 p.m. Interment will be private. Info 800-622-4441.
