Rose Ann Santarelli, 92, of Kenosha, died on Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, at Aurora Medical Center.
Born in Kenosha on Feb. 24, 1919, she was the daughter of Dominick and Carmella (Orienta) Matera.
On Aug. 24, 1940, at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church she was united in marriage to Frank "Futz" Santarelli. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1972.
Throughout her life, Rose enjoyed time spent in her kitchen, where the aromas of coffee cake, simmering sauce and scalidi still linger in the memories of the many friends and beloved family members whom she blessed with her culinary talents. In addition to cooking and caring for her family Rose was employed for more than 37 years with Kenosha Memorial Hospital in the Laboratory. Prior to Kenosha Hospital, she was employed with AMC, JC Penney and Montgomery Wards.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and their Holy Rosary Society. Rose was also a member of the Italian American Society Ladies' Auxiliary and the Catholic Woman's Club. Her family was of utmost importance to her and Rose was very proud of their many accomplishments. She had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed dancing with the Seniorettes and playing poker with her friends each Thursday.
She is survived by her two sons, Frank (Dorene) Santarelli and Dr. James (Geri) Santarelli, both of Kenosha; her daughter, Karen; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Frank Santarelli; her granddaughter, Ellen Rose Santarelli; her three brothers, Tony, Arthur "Tillie" and Marvin Matera; and her three sisters, Ann Markese, Jennie Hansen, and Mari Bilotti.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at 12 noon at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 7117 14th Avenue. Interment will follow in St. George Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. The family has requested that flowers be omitted.
