Jean Thoennes

1921 – 2012

Jean Thoennes (nee: Bruns), 90, passed away peacefully at Wheaton Franciscian Healthcare-All Saints on Saturday, March 17, 2012.

Jean was born in Kenosha on Nov. 24, 1921, the daughter of the late Theodore and Viola (nee: Parks) Bruns. Jean married the late Norleif Storheim in 1940. She moved to Racine as a young woman to work as a dispatcher for Yellow Cab. There she met the love of her life, Bill Thoennes, a cab driver thoroughly charmed by her lively spirit and sense of fun. They were united in marriage in Racine on Dec. 18, 1948. Jean also lived for brief periods in Florida, Las Vegas and Arizona.

A "girly girl" who loved clothes and jewelry and always looked her best, Jean had the perfect CB handle, "Fluffy." She loved a good card game and a little gossip, all in the company of friends who liked to laugh. She was blessed with a sharp mind that never abandoned her. In her last years Jean's greatest wish was to return to Racine from her temporary residence in the west.

Jean is survived by her son, Ted (Barbara) Storheim; grandchildren, Tammy (John) Kowalski, Jeff (Lisa) Storheim, Steven (Karen) Storheim; great grandchildren, Kris (Amanda) Kowalski, Missy (Pawel) Kowalski, Joshua, Tim, Justin, Hanna and Michael Storheim; several great-great grandchildren; sister, Bernadette Kozlowski; brother in law, Richard Thoennes. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband, William on May 15, 1992 and her sister, Hyacinth "Bonnie".

A private Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Jean was laid to rest at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.

Jean was very grateful to the staff of St. Monica's Assisted Living who helped make her return possible, to the staff of Lincoln Village Convalescent Center who provided loving care in her last year and to the hardworking, dedicated social workers at Racine County Human Services.
