Winogene Ruth Peterson died peacefully at her home in the Tudor Oaks Retirement Community, in Hales Corners, Wis., Oct. 28, 2009.
She was born Sept. 22, 1912, in Pine Grove, Wis., the daughter of Paul Summers and Jessie Kollock.
Her brothers preceded her in death; Perry on May 27, 1999, and Robert on May 10, 1969.
Win and Victor Peterson married on June 17, 1954, and Victor passed away on Jan. 9, 1990. Win and Vic had no children, but graced the lives of several devoted nieces and nephews.
Win spent her professional life as a school teacher and an administrator. She graduated from Northland College in Ashland, Wis., and taught in Wisconsin schools from as far north as Park Falls and as far south as Kenosha. She started as a kindergarten teacher and also taught special needs children and retired as a principal of Vernon Elementary school in Kenosha, Wis. Win was a calm and confident woman known for her kindness, tolerance and humor. She was always willing to try new things. And, even at 97 years old, she delighted in playing games on her computer and in exchanging emails with her family and friends. Win and her husband were two of the first residents of Tudor Oaks and participated enthusiastically in its growth and development as a community. Win was best known for her work in organizing the library and playing the organ at Community Chapel services. She touched many lives in her 97 years, always positively and always with consummate grace. She will be missed and lovingly remembered by so many.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Nov. 5, at 10 a.m. at Tudor Oaks Retirement Community, S77 W12929 McShane Drive, Hales Corners, Wis.
