Florian J. Olszewski, 85, of Stevens Point, formerly of Kenosha, passed away on Friday morning, Nov. 6, 2009, at St. Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point.

He was born on April 20, 1924, in Chicago, Ill., to Frank and Genevieve (Dziedzic) Olszewski and attended school in Chicago, graduating from St. Hedwig's School and received his education in electricity at Coyne Electric School. While in Chicago, he worked for General Electric Co. and Hotpoint Co. as a maintenance electrician.
Florian served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the military police division, from which he received an honorable discharge.
On Oct. 28, 1950, he married Mildred Lewandowski at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Chicago.
Florian retired from American Motors/Chrysler in Kenosha after 30 years working in Dept. 861 as an electrical maintenance man.
He was a member of U.A.W. Local 72 in Kenosha and a member of Moose Lodge No. 49 in Milwaukee, as well as St. Peter Catholic Church in Stevens Point. Florian was a self-taught concertina player and enjoyed the polka bands of the 1940s to the present time.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred of Stevens Point; and their three children, Frederick (Sharon Deskin), Judith (Jeff Thomas) both of Kenosha, and Michael (Patricia) of Beloit; four grandchildren, Amanda, Sara, Rebecca and Nicholas; two step-grandchildren, Cynthia and Joshua Frei; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lillian Sengenberger of Chicago.
