James O. McKnight, Sr., 83, of Kenosha, Wis., and formerly of Zion, Ill., died on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at his home in Kenosha.
He was born July 28, 1926, in Liberty, Miss., and moved to Lake County after serving the with United States Army in Germany during World War II. He was a member of Winthrop Harbor United Methodist Church. James retired in 1991 as a nursing assistant from the Veterans Administration Hospital in North Chicago. Following retirement he worked at nursing homes in North Chicago and Zion. James was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who will be missed by all.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Katherine; two sons, James O. (Tanya) McKnight, Jr. of Union Grove, Wis., and Jeremy S. (Heather) McKnight of Winthrop Harbor, Ill.; and four grandchildren, Thalia, James III, Jaelyn and Jeremy II.
He was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters; his parents, Harry and Eugenia McKnight; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Winthrop Harbor United Methodist Church, 600 College Avenue, Winthrop Harbor, Ill. Interment was private at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to either the Winthrop Harbor United Methodist Church or the Kidney Foundation have been suggested.
