Charles L. White
1942 - 2008
Charles L. White, 66, of Kenosha, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at United Hospital Systems - Kenosha Campus.
Born on June 22, 1942, in Elberton, Ga., he was the son of the late Mannie Lee and Sylvia (Raiford) White. He attended Elberton Public Schools, was a 1960 graduate of Blackwell Memorial High School and attended Fort Valley State College in Fort Valley, Ga.
At an early age, Charles joined Springfield Baptist Church where he was baptized and served as a Deacon. He relocated to Kenosha from Elberton in 1962. On Aug. 5, 1967, he married the love of his life, Sandra Spann, in Kenosha.
Charles proudly served his country as a Specialist 5 with the Army from Feb. 2, 1965, until Feb. 1, 1971. He served in Vietnam and was also awarded two Army Commendation Medals.
For 35 years Charles was employed with Case New Holland as a machinist and was formerly employed with American Motors and Jelco Bus Company. His memberships include the NAACP, the Kenosha VFW Junker-Ball Post #1865 and Machinist Local #180. Serving the Lord filled Charles with a sense of purpose. He was a devoted and dedicated member of Coleman Chapel AME Church. At Coleman, he was a former Trustee, a member of the Usher Board, a Layman and a member of the Male Chorus.
Charles enjoyed working on cars and was a member of the Ponyoka Motorcycle Club.He was also involved with various youth groups, and will always be remembered as a kindhearted man who selflessly put others before himself. He was always willing to help those in need.
A family bands together now to say goodbye as Charles is greeted by his Lord and Savior with open arms and a loving "Welcome Home."
His memory will forever be remembered and cherished by his wife, Sandra; two daughters, Camilla (Randell) Alexander of Indianapolis, Ind., and Simone Wilhoit of Kenosha; his special "son", Charles Wallace, Jr.; two sisters, Eunice White and Sandra (James) Lewis, both of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Edmond T. (ET) White of Detroit, Mich.; five grandchildren, Tremayne E. White, Treveon R. Alexander, R'Tajea C. Alexander, Trinity L. Wilhoit and Justus K. Wilhoit; his great granddaughter, Amya A. White; four aunts, Mary Grimes, Minnie Booker, Estelle White, Inez White; and many loving nieces, nephews, special cousins, several godchildren and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Queenie White, a brother, Clayton White, Sr., a special nephew, Clayton White, Jr., and a number of aunts and uncles.
A Home Going Service for Charles will be held on Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Coleman Chapel AME Church, 4111 - 30th Ave.Private interment will be held at a later date.A visitation for Charles will be hosted on Friday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Nurse Pam Clark and the members of Hospice Alliance for the compassionate care they provided to Charles and his family.
