Edward D. Newell

1907 - 2009

Edward D. Newell, 101, formerly of Kenosha, Wis., currently of Cape Coral, Fla., peacefully passed away on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, after a short illness.

He was born on July 17, 1907, in Newellton, La.

On March 23, 1935, in Point Pleasant, W. Va., he married Grace Overholt. They were married 72 years.

While living in Kenosha, he owned and operated The Edward D. Newell Company in Bristol, Wis. He and Grace began winter visits to Cape Coral, Fla., in 1978. Upon Ed's full retirement in 1999, he and Grace moved to Cape Coral permanently.

He was a member of the A.S.M.E., S.A.E., E.G.S.A., United States Power Squadron, Kiwanis Club and Toastmasters in Ohio.

He is survived by his family, son, George O. (Susan) Newell of Kenosha; grandchildren, Mitchell Nadler (and his five daughters) of White Plains, N.Y., Deborah Newell of Kenosha, Wis., Michael Newell of Burlington, Wis., Edward Newell of San Francisco, Calif., Christina Romatowski (Mark) of De Pere, Wis.; great grandchildren include, Martin, Michael and Joanna Roth, Christy Newell, Michael and Jonathon Romatowski, and a great great granddaughter, Kaylee Fischer. Also, Ed's long time caretaker Debbie Stuart of Cape Coral, Fla.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Grace O. Newell, on Jan. 22, 2008, and a daughter, Marjorie Newell Nelson in November of 1975.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 24, from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home 3720 39th Ave, Kenosha, WI. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park, Kenosha, Wis.
