Mildred M. Allen

1908 - 2009

Mildred M. Allen, 101, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at Brookside Care Center.

Born on Feb. 15, 1908, in Mellen, Wis., she was the daughter of the late John and Hattie (Upton) Allen. Mildred moved to Kenosha as a young girl and attended Bain, Washington Junior High and Kenosha High School. She also attended school in Munising, Mich.

For 41 years she was employed by F. W. Woolworth, downtown Kenosha, working various jobs. However, the majority of her career was spent behind the candy counter. To many, she was known as "The Candy Lady." Mildred retired in 1973.

Mildred was a long time member of Kenosha Bible Church where she sang in the choir and was active in the women's missionary society. She was also a devoted Sunday school teacher for 41 years. She enjoyed reading and painting in her spare time.

Mildred is survived by many church friends.

Her parents, a brother, Ed Allen, and a sister-in-law, Edna Allen, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 1 p.m. at the Hansen-Lendman Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Green Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 12 noon until the time of the service at the funeral home. Please consider memorial donations to the Kenosha Bible Church Scholarship Fund.
