I don’t care whether Halloween falls on the last Sunday in October or on the 31st. But how about this for an idea: Make up your mind and decide when it’s going to be once and for all?
When Kenosha and Pleasant Prairie local governments decide to change the date on the fly this year, they obviously did not think about whether their constituents might have made plans ahead of time, because if they did, they would not have moved the date.
And don’t get me wrong, I’m all on board with the capitalist angle of giving costume shops an extra week to sell their wares to adults in midlife crisis flailing away trying to relive their childhoods. But many of us don’t have that luxury and make plans well ahead of time.
So please, let’s settle the important debate of when Halloween should be celebrated and stick with the decision.
In the meantime, since I am partial to being an engaged father and enjoy watching my children have fun on this bacchanalian orgy of a holiday, I’ll be sending the Pleasant Prairie board a bill for the $96 I’m out for the Badgers game I can no longer attend.
