Vaccine isn’t getting to high-risk people

As a lifelong resident of Kenosha, I can say that we have a generally excellent health department. I have been vaccinated and had TB tests there, my child had most of her vaccinations there and they provide many excellent public services.

I believe the decisions being made regarding H1N1 vaccine are not prioritized well. This particular illness has now killed one person. That person was an adult with an underlying health condition. This is one of the groups that has NOT had access to the vaccine. I am an adult with a compromised immune system and respiratory issues and I have not had the ability to be immunized, despite the fact I fit the profile of the most likely to get sick and have a severe case.

I do my best to reduce my risk. I get the seasonal flu shot every year, including this year, wash my hands frequently, and generally live a healthy lifestyle. I was told I was not permitted to wear a mask at work for prevention purposes. I stay home when I am sick, so as not to infect others, which means I run out of sick days. I work around children.

I just want to know why those at high risk don’t have access to the vaccine?

I am just trying to do the right thing.
