I attended the Veterans Day Observance at Wilmot High School. I have been told that this program is one of the best held every year, but this was the first time I have been there. I am not easily impressed, but it was an outstanding event. The band and chorus selections were well done and very moving, as was the keynote speech by Lt. Col. Borkowski, a Wilmot teacher now stationed in Afghanistan. The video presentation of America’s wars and the men and women who have served was exceptionally effective and the roll call of the veterans present, a powerful effect.
As moving and thought provoking as the whole experience was, I was most impressed by the behavior of the 1,000 students in attendance. They were quiet, respectful, and in some cases, tearful. The staff and administration of Wilmot High School are to be commended for a program well done and a student body who has shown that the future of this country will be in good hands.
