Paddock Lake approves video sign for businesses
PADDOCK LAKE — The Paddock Lake Village Board granted permission Wednesday for a group of businesses along Highway 50 to install an electronic advertising sign.
Board members voted 4-1 to approve a special use permit allowing the Paddock Lake Professional Association, which represents a law office, a dental office and Harris Pet Hospital, to put up a sign with an LED electronic display outside their businesses at 24414 75th St.
Frank Gagliardi, an attorney with Gagliardi law offices, said the electronic sign will help draw more attention to the businesses at the site.
“Our (existing) sign doesn’t work for us,” Gagliardi said, saying the electronic sign, with video-like images, will allow the businesses to better advertise their services.
The sign will be limited to adverting on-site businesses, and can advertise not-for-profit events with village approval.
Trustee Terry Burns asked the board to delay taking action on the sign, saying he had concerns about its proximity to Central High School, the size of the sign, and about its location along Highway 50.
When the board opted to move forward with the vote, Burns voted against giving the permit.
“The problem I have is that you have a sign capable of doing so many things,” he said.
Gagliardi said the businesses have no plans to display anything offensive on the sign, and said he would change any display the community disapproved of.
“He’s got ties to the community. He’s not going to do anything to make anybody mad,” Trustee Karen Harris said.
