Fire destroys farm building
Fire destroyed an agricultural building on a Randall pig farm Saturday.
Damage was estimated at more than $10,000 for the building plus an undetermined value for the contents, including three tractors and grain bins, said Randall Fire Department Chief Matt Gronke.
The department received a call about 3:09 p.m. concerning the fire at 9240 328th Ave., he said. The 40-foot-by-60-foot metal shed was away from the single-family home on the property, owned by Steve and Kenda Buxton.
No firefighters, residents or livestock were injured from the fire, Gronke said.
Gronke said the fire appeared to be accidental, and the cause was being investigated.
Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department officials said they understood the property owner had been burning scrap wood and thought that fire had been contained. Gronke, however, said there was no connection at this point between the wood fire and the blaze in the building.
Firefighters spent about three hours at the scene and used 36,000 gallons of water.
Back-up assistance was requested from Twin Lakes, Silver Lake, Wheatland and Salem fire departments.
