Kindred Kitties, oh please
I've been a volunteer at St. Francis on and off for many years. I was at Petco where the owner of Kindred Kitties, Carolyn Newton, sets up to sell, not adopt, her slew of kittens. She passes out kittens like popcorn without any backround check. She "reaches out" alright. I saw her shoving kittens in people's faces in Petco, trying to off them for money. The main difference between them and St. Francis is that St. Francis has enough "respect" for the animals to make certain they are placed in GOOD AND LOVING homes. Another difference is you won't find St. Francis cats popping up at the Kenosha Humane Society because they were dumped due to a lousey adoption. And, at St. Francis adult cats get the same high priority as a kitten. Call Kindred Kitties. Their message is always the same "we are currently not accepting cats". But they'll take kittens any day of the week so they can make 500 bucks a day at Petco on them. Yep, there's a difference alright.
St. Francis Shelter

I'm new to the area, where is St. Francis Animal Shelter? I would like to donate food, cash to the shelter.

Choose another shelter...

There are scores of other animal rescues much more deserving than these Kooks. (no I wasn't part of the protest or am involved in any way) This is a dirty nasty facility, and in my opinion these animals suffer a fate worse than death there. Check out petfinder.org to find a worthy group. Tiny Paws is wonderful, so is Kindred Kitties, Hope Safehouse... the list goes on & on.

and if your gripes with St. francis are about crowding and sick cats not quarantined, then you've obviously never actually been inside kindred kitties. and listen, no one is perfect, and when you work off donations, you have to make do. any of these facilities are a sight better than most breeders homes i've been to, and miles ahead of the streets.

True- cats can get sick

Yes Kindred is overcrowded, underfunded and "kitty cooties" do spread in those situations, but the main difference I see is that the Kindred folks actually reach out to people, treat people well and gain the respect of the community by being kind & compassionate to humans and animals alike. If you are rude and hateful to people.. guess what? you push them towards breeders, because they don't want to and don't have to give you their money... A little kindness goes a LONG way. Just a thought

Really?

Your post is a total lie. Are you kidding? Knowing the number of adoptions KK had the past two weekends, I can attest to the fact that they do NOT make anywhere near that much. They do not make money off the adoption fee. SF is the one who charges $140 for a cat! That is just crazy! Of course they are more likely to accept more kittens than adults because they take less time to place in a home. Get your facts straight before you badmouth a fellow rescue organization. We are all supposed to be in it for the animals. So we should all be working with each other. If you have a problem with an organization then you should take it up with the people in charge, not blatantly lie on a public website. Get a life lady.

She Knows What She Is Doing

I can not believe some of these posts! The application process is part of any adoption group and are all fair questions. The reason for this is all for the well being of the pet. Dogs and cats up for adoption have a past history and many with baggage. This is all for your best interest and the pets. We adopted 3 greyhounds from greyhounds only and they do try to match you with the type of pet you want based on your lifestyle and for the dogs best interest. Nothing is more heartbreaking than finding that the dog you thought you wanted because of their gender or looks turns out to not be the right thing. You need to trust these organizations, they DO know what they are doing.
