Bradford nearly had three players rush for 100 yards each during Saturday’s 56-20 victory over Tremper in a second-round game of the WIAA State football playoffs at Ameche Field.

Melvin Gordon had 14 carries for 129 yards, Cody Brady 16 rushes for 111 yards and Torrie Tyson 4 carries for 98 yards in Bradford’s triple-option offense

The potent offense starts with the leadership and decision-making of junior quarterback Gino DeBartolo.

“They have a good offense,” Tremper coach Frank Matrise said. “That DeBartolo kid is a heck of an athlete.”

DeBartolo finished with just 32 yards on seven carries and was 2-for-2 passing for 48 yards. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder rushed for a touchdown and threw for another.

The Red Devils tallied a whopping 452 yards (404 rushing, 48 passing).

“We didn’t execute well at all,” Tremper lineman Najee Parker said. “We didn’t get low enough to tackle. We didn’t finish. That’s about it.”

Big finish

Andrew Gray capped his standout season with a 74-yard touchdown run on his final carry with 6:58 to play.

The Tremper senior tailback rushed for a game-high 174 yards on 20 attempts. That total tied for the sixth-highest mark in the history of the Bradford-Tremper rivalry.

On the season, Gray finished with 219 carries for 1,640 yards and 15 TDs (13 rushing).
