Franz Feldmeier has coached boys swimming at Bradford for 36 years and girls swimming for 26, but his squads had never before combined to accomplish what they did Tuesday at Tremper.

With a 100-86 victory in each school’s final Southeast Conference dual meet of the season, the Bradford boys capped a school-year sweep for the Red Devils.

“This is the first time that I’ve been coaching that we’ve beaten Tremper’s girls and boys teams in the same (school) year,” Feldmeier said. “So it’s really nice for us.”

Bradford’s boys (6-2 overall, 5-2 SEC) also defeated Tremper (3-4 SEC) for the first time in 10 SEC dual meets.

“We were up for this meet because we hadn’t beaten them in nine years,” Feldmeier said. “Our kids swam very well, and we knew we could win the meet but it was a matter of which kids would step up for us. It was a gratifying win for the kids. They were pretty happy.”

Bradford’s John DeVroy won the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 5.11 seconds) and 100 freestyle (51.08), while his brother Joe DeVroy captured the 500 freestyle (5:09.41) and 100 backstroke (59.82).

Alex Lopez won the 200 freestyle (1:55.41) and 100 butterfly (58.04), and Aubrey Langley finished first in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.31) and second in the 200 individual medley (2:08.18) to lead the Trojans.

“I thought our kids did a good job of competing,” Tremper coach Mike McKay said. “Bradford had a few more weapons than we did. They were pretty much able to control the meet throughout.”
