Aiello, Bible advance in Junior Masters
Local golfers Vic Aiello and Matt Bible qualified for match play in their respective divisions in the 36th annual Mike Bencriscutto Junior Masters State Match Play Tournament on Tuesday at Johnson Park in Racine.
The top 32 in each age division after Tuesday’s second round of stroke play advanced to match play, which gets under way today.
Competing in the 18-and-under division, Aiello finished tied for 13th out of 84 golfers with a 149 (78-71). Seeded 14th, he will face 19th-seeded Paul Bretl of Green Bay (150) in the first round of match play.
Lee Swan of Portage shot a 137 (68-69) and has the No. 1 seed, while John Gullberg of Franksville shot a 139 (66-73) and is the No. 2 seed. Gullberg was the 16-and-under runner-up last year.
Local golfers who did not qualify were Scott Ratzburg (tied for 51st, 163) and Cody Peaslee (tied for 66th, 168).
In the 16-and-under division, Bible was 28th out of 87 golfers with a 163 (82-81). He will face fifth-seeded Billy Fox of Brookfield (149) in the first round of match play.
Charlie Danielson of Osceola carded a 142 (72-70) and has the No. 1 seed.
Local golfers who did not qualify were Max Aiello (tied for 35th, 166), Dustin Day and Riley Smith (both tied for 47th, 170), Nick Moro (tied for 60th, 174), Brandon Howard (tied for 71st, 188), Nate Nyquist (78th, 195) and Ben Gordon (82nd, 216).
