For the fourth consecutive night, the Men’s Division in the 46th annual Kenosha News Match Game Bowling Tournament has a new leader.

A.J. Hedges topped the qualifying with a 1,976 on the second-to-last night of qualifying Thursday night on his home lanes at Surfside Bowl. Qualifying concludes tonight at 6:30 p.m. Among those scheduled to bowl are past champions Kelly Pobloski, Larry Willems and Bill Marescalco Jr.

Hedges began his night with a pair of 265 games. After a 180, 245 and 244, Hedges recorded a 288. He finished with a 275.

The top 16 make the Men’s finals, which are Tuesday and May 11.

Also Thursday, Mike Bain rolled a 1,949 to move into second place. Bain recorded a pair of 279s and a 255 in his eight-game block.

Ed Seliga (1,870), Peter Fani (1,869), Brian Nikolai (1,865) and Tim Lewis (1,863) all moved into the top 16 on Thursday. The quartet sits on the bubble in positions 13 through 16.

Scott Safransky, the 2007 champion, rolled a 1,619 Thursday and did not make the top 16. Wednesday, defending champion Brian Kaddatz was bumped out of the top 16.

Eight-time champion Len Boresch Jr., who last won in 2005, is in 12th with the 1,875 he shot Monday.

In the Women’s Division, Becky Tirabassi fired a 1,644 for the night’s high score to move into sixth place. The 2000 champion’s high game was a 246.

The top 12 make the Women’s finals, which are Sunday and Thursday.

Liz Gentile, buoyed by a 255, shot a 1,621 and is in eighth place. Stephanie DeFranco, who bowled Monday, leads the division with a 1,721.

Tom Kaddatz and Bill Harris both cracked the top 16 in the Senior Men’s Division Thursday. Kaddatz shot a 1,794 and is ninth while Bill Harris shot a 1,792 and is 10th.

The top 16 make the Senior Men’s finals, which are Monday and Thursday.

Tom Ruffalo, who bowled Monday, still heads teh field with a 1,906.

In the Super Senor Men’s Division, Andrew Mastronardi and Dave Furtney rolled into the top eight on Thursday. Mastronardi rolled a six-game block of 1,191 to move into fourth while Furtney was sixth with a 1,176.
